A few months ago I needed something for my friend, James, to do while he was staying here. (see earlier blog) I decided that he could dig out a stump in the backyard... a rather large stump leftover from a large fir tree that I had cut down earlier in the year. He didn't get much done before he left for home, but it started me on a frantic drive to get the rest of the yard finished before summer ended. Well, the past couple of weeks have been full of back-breaking work. Digging, mixing and pouring concrete, building cement block walls, levelling ground and laying sod. Whew. Here are some before and after photos (click to view a bunch more):
As usual I did almost everything myself. The only exception was hiring a couple of local guys to cut the hole in the basement wall and install the new door. (Alex Mejia, N. Portland, 971-219-3810) The most fun was renting the tractor and digging out the hole. I had to rent it for two days, and a lot of my dirt went over the fence into my neighbor's backyard. (they WANTED it to level out their yard, I didn't just dump it without asking) A couple of days ago I layed out the grass and Troy & Sierra hit up the Portland Nursery for some plants. I had no idea what to plant, so I let Sierra pick everything out. Ta-da! All done.
